The 5th annual conference in 2024 between Dak Cheung district (Sekong province, Laos) and Nam Giang district (Quang Nam province, Vietnam) took place in Dak Cheung on October 30.
The conference was co-chaired by Mr. Phengna Chanthaphone, Secretary of the Dak Cheung Party Committee, and Mr. A Viet Son, Chairman of the Nam Giang district People's Committee.
Reported from the conference, over the past time, the political and social security situation in the border areas of Nam Giang and Dak Cheung have been stable, and the border sovereignty has been maintained.
The two sides have facilitated border traffic activities, meeting the requirements of international integration and economic development in each district and protecting national sovereignty.
Besides, the two districts created conditions for sectors, localities, and people of twin villages to exchange culture, visit relatives, and help each other overcome challenges of natural disasters and epidemics.
Nam Giang district also created conditions and helped people in Dak Cheung district with medical examination and treatment at the Dak Cheung district’s Medical Center.
In 2018, the Nam Giang District Medical Center sent doctors and nurses to carry out a diphtheria vaccination campaign in 8 border villages of Dak Cheung district.
The two districts promoted cooperation and mutual assistance in economic development and poverty reduction. Since 2017, Nam Giang district has supported people in Dak Cheung district in production and social security with a total budget of about 5 billion VND.
At the conference, Nam Giang and Dak Cheung districts agreed to organize an annual conference every two years and take turns. The 6th conference will take place in Nam Giang district in 2026.
