(QNO) - Nam Giang is currently attempting to complete the construction and preservation of traditional guol and ang structures of the Co Tu, Ve, and Ta Rieng ethnic minorities. The efforts are aimed at serving the 6th Gong Festival in 2024.
Reportedly, 12 guol and ang structures of the Co Tu, Ve, and Ta Rieng ethnic people are being restored in the space for the Gong Festival this year.
All the materials for the restoration of the traditional public houses are supported by the local communities. Dozens of artisans take part in the processes of construction, sculpture, and decoration.
The reconstruction aims to simulate the traditional public houses of highland and mountainous communities and recreate the communities’ living spaces.
These structures are also aimed at fostering the spirit of solidarity and contributing to the preservation of traditional cultural values.
The festival takes place on June 25 - 26. The guol and ang structures are used to exhibit household items and historical and cultural artefacts collected from various localities, including musical instruments, agricultural tools, and traditional costumes.
In the space of the festival, there are 30 booths showcasing highland ethnic people's typical agricultural products and cuisine.
After the festival, all the guol and ang structures will be relocated to the local library and museum so that they are well-preserved and reused for future festivals.
