(QNO) - At the first international conference on rural tourism in Quang Nam on December 10, experts stated that tourism could unlock the "gold mines" in rural areas.
Tourism makes rural villages in Vietnam livable places
Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, stated at the conference that Vietnam is focusing on rural tourism development, leveraging its 70% rural population to diversify domestic tourism and boost rural development.
Thanks to tourism, underdeveloped areas turn into livable villages; cultural and ecological values are preserved; and there is a reduction of the urban-rural income gap.
Quang Nam Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet reaffirmed the provincial commitment to sustainable tourism, driven by its rich resources and UNESCO world heritage sites, Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary.
Quang Nam has 126 agricultural and rural tourism sites, including Thanh Ha pottery village, Tra Que vegetable village, and Bay Mau nipa palm forest. In particular, Tra Que vegetable village has been recognised as the best tourism village in 2024 by UN Tourism.
Zoritsa Urosevic, Executive Director of UN Tourism, emphasised prioritising rural development as key to global sustainability. She highlighted initiatives to empower rural communities, promote equity, and transform lives through tourism.
