(QNO) - The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Quang Nam, along with local authorities, has implemented the project on preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in relation to tourism development, which has achieved positive initial results.
The project aims to restore and enhance traditional cultural values, increasing cultural access, and supporting community-based tourism development for ethnic minorities.
Quang Nam has about 140,590 ethnic people, accounting for 9.4% of the population. Among them, the Co Tu, Xo Dang, Gie Trieng, and Co groups, with around 132,060 people, have a long history of settlement, mainly in the western midland and mountainous areas.
In 2023-2024, Quang Nam held five training sessions on intangible cultural heritage and surveyed the artistic forms and instruments of Co Tu groups in Dong Giang, reenacted the Ve group’s traditional wedding in Dak Pre (Nam Giang), the Ca Dong new rice festival in Phuoc Gia (Hiep Duc), and survey traditional communal houses in ethnic and mountainous areas.
Besides, Quang Nam promotes tourism in Tay Giang, Dong Giang, and Nam Giang, with media initiatives for ethnic and mountainous areas.
Dong Giang has received support in Areh - Dhrong village tourism infrastructure and the preservation of traditional brocade weaving and cultural performances.
Nam Giang has restored musical instruments and revived ceremonies like the Ta Rieng rice festival and Co Tu wedding. Nam Tra My has reenacted the Ca Dong water worship ceremony and offered gong training and traditional clothing for Ca Dong, Xo Dang, and Mnong communities.
The project’s implementation has effectively leveraged investment, fostering cultural preservation and tourism in mountainous districts while offering ethnic communities meaningful recreational opportunities.
