(QNO) - On November 11, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam provincial People's Committee, Ho Quang Buu, chaired a meeting with BAF Company (Norway) regarding a bamboo planting project to supply materials for a plywood manufacturing plant, aimed at exporting to Europe and generating carbon credits.
Ms. Trine Emilia Kvale Larsen, founder of the Bamboo Planting Project (BAF), highlighted Vietnam’s severe climate change impacts, including rising storms and floods. Bamboo planting will act as a solution to soil erosion, water conservation, and forest restoration, while also providing sustainable livelihoods and high carbon absorption.
The project aims to plant strong-tong bamboo (giant bamboo) that grows 20-30m tall with a diameter of 8-20cm.
BAF will partner with landowners for 30 years, sharing profits and covering costs for seedlings, technology, and labor. Landowners receive wages and can own the bamboo forests after the contract ends.
Vice Chairman Ho Quang Buu emphasized the importance of bamboo planting in supporting the government's sustainable forestry and climate change goals and encouraged the company to partner with cooperatives and engage closely with local communities.
