(QNO) - The inauguration ceremony of the Japanese Covered Bridge conservation project was organized on August 3 by the People’s Committee of Hoi An city (Quang Nam province). The project is completed after one and a half years of restoration.

Present at the event were Hoi An and Quang Nam’s leaders, representatives of agencies under the Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, UNESCO Office in Hanoi, Japanese agencies.

The project to conserve the Japanese Covered Bridge (Chua Cau or Cau Pagoda) has a total investment of more than 20.2 billion VND, of which the Quang Nam province budget supports 50% and the Hoi An city budget arranges 50%. The project started on December 28, 2022.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam People's Committee, Phan Thai Binh, said the conservation process of the Japanese Covered Bridge was carried out very carefully by the People's Committee of Hoi An city in terms of science, history, culture and legal procedures.

The leader of Quang Nam hoped after being restored, the Japanese Covered Bridge will continue to be an attractive destination, bringing several cultural and economic values ​​to Hoi An.
