(QNO) - Thai Nguyen Van Giang, former student of Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted (Quang Nam province), along with Le Quynh Anh, a 12th-grade English major at the same school, both from Tam Ky, represented Vietnamese youth at the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12) in Egypt.
The 12th World Urban Forum, themed "Home is Where it All Begins," was held in Cairo from November 4 to 8. Vietnam’s delegation of 21 included officials, NGO representatives, media, and two youths, Thai Nguyen Van Giang and Le Quynh Anh, who earned their places by excelling in UN-Habitat Vietnam’s selection rounds.
WUF 12 highlighted local governments' roles in sustainable urban development. At the event, Van Giang and Quynh Anh shared Vietnamese youth perspectives and ideas for sustainable growth in Quang Nam and others.
At the forum, Van Giang highlighted how young people use technology to engage with urban issues, gathering data and raising awareness on social media.
Representing Vietnam, she conducted a survey on urban housing and ideal cities, revealing that many urban residents are unaware of urban development's impact on their lives.
Her goal at the forum was to gain insights from experts to increase community awareness about urban planning and inspire proactive involvement.
The two Quang Nam youth also talked about Vietnam’s urban spaces, like co-working and cultural centres, that may support youth creativity and entrepreneurship. At the forum, they aimed to learn sustainable strategies to help young people shape a thriving, inclusive future.
37,000 delegates from 182 countries took part in 600 events at WUF 12, which focused on housing, climate, and digital-age priorities.
Vietnam joined several events, including the opening ceremony, ministerial roundtables, and high-level meetings with UN-Habitat, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
WUF has been a premier forum for global urban development discussions since 2002.
