(QNO) - Numerous music and art programs by both local and international artists held in Hoi An demonstrate how the ancient town has become an ideal creativity hub, contributing to the promotion of Vietnamese art to the world.
After visiting Hoi An over a decade ago and being drawn by the town’s charm, artist Nguyen Nhu Duc moved his family from Hanoi to Hoi An. His early works mainly depicted Hoi An’s landscapes.
He later founded an artist residency, allowing local and international artists to create works inspired by Hoi An and promote its cultural heritage.
After that, he and his friends decided to launch the “Hoi An - Art & Craft Festival” in mid-February. The festival featured six artists and workshops showcasing upcycled fabric products, mosaic art, ceramics, watercolor paintings, wooden sculptures, and engraved maps.
The “Hoi An - Art & Craft Festival” also marked the first time experimental performances, including contemporary dance, film, and music, were featured with the participation of various artists.
Dorian Gibbs, a British artist in Vietnam for a decade, explores abstract aesthetics to evoke emotions. Another one is Jasmin Norris, a performer and director, has showcased works across Europe and Vietnam. She collaborated with Lora on a piece combining saxophone, contemporary dance, and Sam Norris’s harmonization.
Sam Norris, a former member of the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra, has performed in Switzerland, Serbia, and Germany. Meanwhile, contemporary dancer Linh Trinh explores connections between community, nature, and well-being through art.
Beyond expectations, the “Hoi An - Art & Craft Festival” not only brought together diverse artistic expressions but also reaffirmed Hoi An’s spirit of cultural exchange, adaptation, and creativity, key to its past, present, and future as a dynamic artistic city.
