(QNO) - On December 14, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) celebrated its 25th anniversary (1999 - 2025) at Vinpearl Nam Hoi An Resorts & Golf (Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province).
According to VITAS Chairman Vu Duc Giang, the 25th anniversary marks a significant milestone of VITAS's growth and achievements. It also showed its contributions to the development of Vietnam textile and apparel industry (VITA) and set its future direction.
Over the past 25 years, VITA has risen to become the world’s third-largest exporter, trailing only China and Bangladesh. The local market has also grown significantly, from over USD 300 million to approximately USD 4.5 billion.
With regard to matters concerning policies, administrative procedures, specialist inspections, taxes, customs, salaries, insurance, and others, VITAS has specifically been a successful intermediary between textile businesses and the government, ministries, agencies, and localities.
VITAS has also contributed to the development of supportive policies, facilitated businesses’ trade, and participated in negotiations for free trade agreements.
VITA has achieved remarkable growth over the past 25 years. Its export turnover is estimated at USD 44 billion (up 11.26% from 2023). The import turnover is USD 25 billion (an increase of 14.79% compared to last year). The trade surplus is USD 19 billion (up 6.93% in a comparison with 2023).
According to VITAS Deputy Chairman Truong Van Cam, VITA aims to improve the local value chain and its place in the global supply chain by achieving sustainable development by 2030 and implementing a circular economy model by 2035.
VITAS will continue its twofold metamorphosis in order to create a sustainable Vietnamese textile brand.
