(QNO) - The 1st UN Tourism Conference on Tourism for Rural Development took place at Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An (Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province) on December 10.
Present at the opening ceremony were UN Tourism Deputy Secretary-General Zoritsa Urosevic; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Ho An Phong; Secretary of the Quang Nam provincial Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet; and 300 delegates from the government, international organisations, tourism communities from 50 countries/territories.
In his opening speech, Secretary Triet said Quang Nam province was honored to be chosen by the Government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and UN Tourism as the host of this event.
It is the first global event of UN Tourism on rural tourism. So, the conference was a great opportunity for Quang Nam to introduce Quang Nam - A green tourism destination, and promote effective cooperation between Vietnam tourism in general and Quang Nam in particular with UN Tourism and other countries.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Ho An Phong, hoped that the conference would help UN Tourism member countries in general and Vietnam in particular seek ways to build and popularise rural tourism products suitable to each country’s situation and strength.
According to UN Tourism Deputy Secretary-General Zoritsa Urosevic, the conference was an important milestone reflecting UN Tourism's strong commitment to prioritizing rural development as a foundation for global recovery and sustainable development while promoting the empowerment of rural communities and economic and social equity.
On the occasion, the delegates explore local rural tourism products, including Tra Que vegetable village, Thanh Ha pottery village, and Hoi An ancient city in Quang Nam province on December 11.
