RoK grants relief aid worth US$2 million to disaster victims in Vietnam

Through its aid package, the RoK government hopes to contribute to the recovery of the affected areas and help people return to their normal lives as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Government, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has decided to provide emergency relief supplies to help Vietnam address the damage caused by typhoon Yagi.

In a letter to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida extended his sincere condolences to the victims and their families, and expected that Vietnam would quickly overcome the difficult time.

ASEAN Foreign Ministers released a joint statement on September 11, expressing profound sadness and solidarity in response to the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi in the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, China, and other affected countries.

The ministers affirmed their solidarity with and expressed their readiness to cooperate and contribute to relief efforts, including through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre).

In other developments, Australia announced an initial aid package worth AUD3 million to help people overcome the consequences of typhoon Yagi and subsequent flashfloods and landslides. An initial tranche of emergency relief supplies arrived in Hanoi on September 11 evening.

UNICEF has provided water supplies to government partners for distribution to households, hospitals, health facilities and schools in Thai Nguyen, Yen Bai and Lao Cai - three of the most impacted provinces by typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.

The Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention has reported that it is coordinating with several organizations, including UN Women, Samaritan's Purse, the Swiss Embassy, the French Embassy, and Save the Children, to finalize emergency assistance support.
