Chairman Vu The Binh of the Vietnam Tourism Association delivered a speech at the conference.

The Vietnam Tourism Association implemented the project from January 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, focusing on three components: raising awareness about plastic waste reduction in tourism, piloting solutions in Quang Nam and Ninh Binh, and developing action plans and waste management applications for tourism businesses.

The project aimed to reduce plastic waste, protect the environment, and promote sustainable tourism and national economic growth.

Under the second component, training sessions, awareness campaigns, and support for eco-friendly products were provided to restaurants and hotels.

A representative from Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort received certificate in the plastic waste reduction in tourism project.

A survey measuring the results of plastic waste reduction among approximately 50 tourism businesses in two localities revealed a behavioral shift, with a 35% reduction in plastic waste.

Based on the project's success in Ninh Binh and Hoi An (Quang Nam), the Vietnam Tourism Association will expand plastic waste reduction activities to other localities nationwide, focusing on green transition in tourism businesses for sustainable development.

The goal is for all association members to eliminate the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags and single-use plastics by 2030.
