(QNO) - A training workshop on plastic waste reduction in tourism has just taken place in Hoi An (Quang Nam). The event is a component of the project on plastic waste reduction in the Vietnam tourism industry.
Present at the event were Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, representatives from the Global Environment Facility, leaders of the Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Provincial Tourism Association, and tens of travel agencies and businesses in Quang Nam.
At the event, the experts from the Vietnam Tourism Association presented a set of criteria for the recognition of businesses without plastic waste and the application of plastic waste management.
The workshop discussed the problems of reducing plastic waste and the goal of sustainable green tourism development, suggesting several solutions for developing green tourism products, training human resources for green tourism, and sustainable circular development.
According to the Vietnam Tourism Association, the project on plastic waste reduction in tourism is currently being piloted in Ninh Binh and Quang Nam via some initiatives and solutions applied at some piloted hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and tourist attractions.
It is expected that 100% of tourist attractions and accommodation establishments will say ‘no’ to non-biodegradable plastic bags and single-use plastic products.
The workshop contributed to spreading the message of plastic waste reduction for the goal of sustainable green tourism development in Vietnam.
