Reviving degraded forests

With nearly 780,000 hectares of forest and planned forest development land, Quang Nam plays a critical role in environmental protection and climate change mitigation.

Over the past five years, hundreds of hectares of native trees have been planted in Song Thanh National Park, contributing to the regeneration of lost forest areas and the restoration of the ecosystem.

In addition to the strict protection of both the buffer and core zones of the national park, the unit is actively working with local communities to plant native tree species to restore the destroyed natural forest.

Positive results

Quang Nam has also restructured its forest protection forces from forest guardians to local residents.

The province has also established two biodiversity corridors connecting Song Thanh, Sao La, and Voi Nong Son nature reserves for a richer ecosystem.

In addition, Quang Nam has approved phase 1 of the Forest Restoration and Livelihood Development Project, running from July 2024 to December 2025, with the aid from the VELUX Foundation, through the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Switzerland), enhancing biodiversity and improving the livelihoods of local communities reliant on forest resources in Tay Giang, Dong Giang, and Nam Giang.
