Prospects of Vietnam - South Korea - ICT investment cooperation

(QNO) - A conference on prospects of the South Korea - Vietnam ICT investment cooperation was organized on August 16 in Da Nang city (Vietnam) by the South Korean Consulate General in Da Nang.

The conference drew the participation of Da Nang municipal leaders, Vietnamese and South Korean enterprises, IT experts, and students from universities in Central Vietnam.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the South Korean Consul General in Da Nang city, Kang Boosung, said South Korea and Vietnam established formal diplomatic relations in 1992. Since then, the two countries have achieved remarkable achievements, especially in the economic sector.

In 2023, South Korea - Vietnam bilateral trade turnover exceeded 76.1 billion USD, making Vietnam the third largest trading partner of South Korea. South Korea is currently the largest investor in Vietnam, with a total accumulated investment capital of 85.9 billion USD.

The two nations have also upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Their leaders have agreed to strengthen and expand cooperation across multiple sectors, including technology and science, information and communication, agriculture, and energy.

Consul General Kang Boosung hoped, via this conference, more South Korean ICT enterprises will invest in Central Vietnam, opening up numerous career opportunities for Vietnamese students.

At the conference, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications, Tran Ngoc Thach, stated that Da Nang is gradually becoming an attractive destination for investors, startups, and IT enterprises.

The city is focussing on infrastructure, human resources, and preferential policies to attract more investment, become a hub of high-quality human resources training in the fields of semiconductors and artificial intelligence, and a smart city by 2030.

According to Thach, Da Nang currently has 37 institutions offering the training courses of IT, microchips, and semiconductors (such as telecommunications, mechatronics, and automation), with approximately 6,000 graduates each year.
