(QNO) - For the past decade, an 81-year-old Belgian, Geyskens Christiane Marie C, has been visiting Hoi An, Vietnam, dedicating her time to supporting victims of Agent Orange. This year, she continues her mission, ensuring aid reaches those in need.
Geyskens organises annual fundraising events, including golf tournaments, with the support of the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium. In 2024, these efforts raised 8,000 euros for Agent Orange victims in Hoi An.
Her journey began in 2015 when she first visited Vietnam and learnt about the struggles of Agent Orange victims. Shocked by the conditions of second- and third-generation victims suffering from severe disabilities, she committed herself to ongoing support.
Over the years, her organisation has raised more than 71,900 euros, funding economic support initiatives and home repairs for affected families.
Despite challenges, Geyskens remains dedicated, emphasising that her work is driven by humanitarian concerns. She hopes to continue her mission, standing by the victims and raising global awareness about their plight.
With the Belgian King's upcoming visit to community projects in April 2025, she sees an opportunity to further advocate for the cause.
Through her unwavering efforts, Geyskens has not only provided financial aid but also strengthened international support for Vietnam’s Agent Orange victims, ensuring they receive long-term assistance and recognition for their suffering.
