(QNO) - A year after joining UNESCO global creative cities network, Hoi An is actively implementing initiatives to elevate its traditional values towardsan "eco-cultural-tourism" urban model.
Hoi An has built facilities, developed eco-tourism in Cam Kim, organized tours in Kim Bong carpentry village, improved landscapes and heritage, enhanced production models, and boosted youth vocational training about eco-cultural-tourism.
To implement the international initiative of establishing the "Hoi An Creative House," the city is gradually becoming a destination for artists and creative experts across various fields to connect and perform.
Notable events include a musical exchange between Hungarian violinist Maestro Vilmos Oláh and Hoi An artists, a performance by the Jeong-Gwan Children’s Choir from South Korea in Hoi An, and other shows featuring Vietnamese and Indian artists.
Joining UNESCO creative cities network in the field of crafts and folk arts has energized creative spaces, artisans, and craftsmen, making their activities more vibrant.
2024 marks a year of memorable milestones for the craft villages of Hoi An. Tra Que vegetable village (Cam Ha commune, Hoi An city) is the only representative from Vietnam honored by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) as the "Best Tourism Village".
In 2024, the city added 5 more traditional crafts to Quang Nam's list of recognized traditional occupations, including: Hoi An tailoring, Hoi An Cao Lau, Hoi An lanterns, Cam Nam sticky rice, and Kim Bong sedge mat weaving.
