(QNO) - An annual conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) took place from July 1 to 5 in Braga, Portugal, with the participation of 350 cites from over 100 countries worldwide, including the three cities of Hanoi, Hoi An, and Da Lat (Vietnam).
Attending the conference, the delegation of Hoi An city (Quang Nam province) had a working session with Mr. Ernesto Ottone R., Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO, Ms. Denise Bax of the UCCN’s Secretariat, and Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Huong, Head of the Cultural Department of the UNESCO Office in Hanoi.
The participants exchanged strategic directions and solutions for Hoi An to implement the city’s commitments since it has joined the UCCN in 2023.
Mr. Ernesto Ottone R. highly appreciated Hoi An's correct direction in choosing the values of cultural heritage as the foundation for its development and creativity on the basis of preserving and promoting world cultural heritage.
At the same time, he believed Hoi An should mobilize the strength of the community, especially young people, to participate in creative activities to create new values for the city as a member of the UCCN.
The UCCN annual conference 2024 focused on the importance of creativity in sustainable urban development. At the conference, the UCCN declaration was signed, emphasizing the central role of culture in the sustainable development of cities.
