(QNO) - On March 20, at Cua Dai beach (Hoi An City), the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee commenced the coastal erosion prevention and sustainable protection project for Hoi An's shoreline.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Gonzalo Serrano, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the European Union (EU) Delegation to Vietnam; and Mr. Hervé Conan, Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Vietnam.
Mr. Vo Van Diem, Director of the Quang Nam Investment and Construction Project Management Board, stated that Hoi An’s coastline, once among Asia’s most beautiful, has suffered severe erosion since 2014.
Now, with funding from AFD and the EU, the Hoi An coastal protection project has officially entered its implementation phase.
The project aims to curb coastal erosion, safeguard residents, boost tourism, create jobs, and enhance local resilience to climate change. At the same time, it is hoped to protect land, homes, assets, and lives, along with tourism and resort infrastructure, covering approximately 3.2 km² and benefiting over 1,300 households.
With strong collaboration from donors and partners, especially AFD and the EU, and the firm commitment of local authorities to sustainable development, Quang Nam will continue to maximize resources to ensure long-term stability for Hoi An’s coastline.
