(QNO) - 970 green lim trees and ancient banyan trees in Tay Giang district, Quang Nam province have just been recognised as Vietnam's heritage trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature.
Accordingly, a total of 959 green lim trees in the rare lim forest in Ta Ry and Por'ning villages (Lang commune), along with 11 ancient banyan trees in Ating village (Ga Ry commune), have been recognized as Vietnam's Heritage Trees.
This achievement follows efforts by the local government and community in Tay Giang to protect these trees.
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, explained that the green lim tree (Erythrophleum fordii) is an endangered species in the Vietnam Red Book, and the banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) belongs to the mulberry family.
Previously, 1,587 ironwood trees in Tay Giang were also recognized as Vietnam's heritage trees , including pomu, rhododendron, banyan, and gioi trees.
