(QNO) - On April 5, the People's Committee of Tam Ky city, Quang Nam province held a ceremony to announce the Decision and receive the Certificate of Vietnam Heritage Tree for nine Sua trees in Huong Tra ecological village.
Attending the ceremony were Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee Permanent Deputy Secretary Le Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) Dang Huy Huynh, Tam Ky city's leaders, local residents, and others.
The population of Sua trees in Huong Tra village has an average age of more than 100 years, including 12 ancient trees with an age of more than 200 years.
Tam Ky city currently has more than 2,000 Sua trees on its roads and in public spaces. In particular, the "Tam Ky - Sua flower season" festival is annually organized, attracting a lot of local people and visitors near and far.
According to Vice Chairman of Tam Ky city People's Committee Nguyen Minh Nam, the recognition of Vietnam heritage tree aims for better conservation of the value of the population of Sua trees in Huong Tra village, creating a destination for ecotourism, contributing to preserving the value of indigenous resources, and raising awareness of environmental protection among communities.
Earlier, a population of nine Sua trees in Huong Tra ecological village was recognized as the title of Vietnam heritage tree by the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment.
In his opening speech at the event, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment Dang Huy Huynh said, preserving and taking care of the green Sua trees well by Tam Ky people is very valuable and respectful, contributing to environmental protection and building Huong Tra ecological village.
