The model for Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), which is of the 3rd component under the Irrigated Agricultural Improvement Project in Que Son district (Quang Nam province) in the period of 2019-2020, is successful.
Farming assistance
Applying the CSA model in rice farming in Que Phu commune (Que Son district, Quang Nam province) has helped increase productivity by 40kg an acre compared to traditional farming models. So, the farmers there decided to widen the area of CSA in the next crops.
Similarly, the CSA model has also been widely applied to rice production by over 15 hundred farmers in Que Xuan 1 commune (Que Son district).
Besides, the model has also used for peanuts in this commune with an average productivity of 25 quintals a hectare. Up to now, it is applied in 141 hectares of peanuts there.
It is reported that the farmers have been supported with seeds, farming tools and techniques when taking part in the project. In particular, there have been 36 training courses on technology transfer. 24 of them were of rice production and 12 of other crops.
Practical effect
In Que Son district, CSA was applied for rice, corn and peanut farming in Que Xuan 1, Que Xuan 2, Que Phu, Huong An, and Que My in 2019 and 2020. The results were very positive.
The CSA model for rice production helped to reduce from 20 to 30 kilograms of seed a hectare, decrease the use of pesticides, water for irritation and urea fertilizers. Meanwhile, the rice grew well and its productivity was much better.
For peanuts, the CSA model helped the farmers increase their income thanks to a considerable decrease of farming cost.
More importantly, the CSA model has contributed to raising the locals’ awareness of environmental protection and to transforming their production thinking.
