A course of turning waste into resources has recently been held in Hoi An by the Green Youth Collective. It is expected to raise tourism businesses’ awareness of environmental protection.
Waste as a resource
The course focuses on the ways to deal with organic waste so that every household or tourism business can do it by themselves, thereby sending a message of environmental protection and positive lifestyle to everyone.
Those who take part in the course are given the instruction on how to sort organic waste, to treat and ferment leftovers and damaged vegetables, turning them into organic fertilizers.
Besides, damaged fruit can be processed into enzyme water that is used as washing-up liquids, laundry detergents, floor cleaners, toilet and kitchen cleaners.
The course helps the community understand the life cycle and the value of waste. It also contributes to make people think of it as a resource.
Recreational tourism
The course of treating waste is expected to take place in Hoi An every Sunday. It focuses on homestays, villas, cafes, restaurants, businesses, schools and residents.
The course aims to turn waste into resources that can help increase the values of tourism products. In other words, it is called recreational tourism.
At Fullmoon Town restaurant, there is a closed cycle of treating waste (kitchen – farming – kitchen). Visitors to the Fullmoon Town can have an opportunity to deal with waste, do farming and enjoy vegetables and chicken meat in the farm.
It is forecasted that recreational tourism will be a trend in tourism after Covid-19. Every visitor to Hoi An and Quang Nam will also join hands in environmental protection.
Recreational tourism is considered as one of the sustainable tourism models, helping people not depend on available resources.
