(QNO) - According to Decision 611/ QD-TTg on the programme of Vietnam’s ginseng until 2030, with a vision to 2045, Ngoc Linh and Lai Chau ginseng species are preserved and developed under the name Vietnamese ginseng.

The Government of Vietnam has recently established a lot of mechanisms and policies on the development of Ngoc Linh ginseng, including the development programmes of national products, of the local pharmaceutical and medicinal industry until 2030, with a vision to 2045, and of Ngoc Linh ginseng- national ginseng.

The programme of Vietnamese ginseng development is aimed at preserving Vietnamese ginseng gene resources in the wild in combination of natural forest protection and development, and biodiversity conservation.

There will be about 21,000 hectares of ginseng by 2030. 100% of the ginseng areas will be provided with regional codes and geographical indications, and the output will be about 300 tons of ginseng meeting GACP-WHO standards a year.

The varieties of Vietnamese ginseng that need to be preserved are Ngoc Linh ginseng (Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv) and Lai Chau ginseng (Panax vietnamensis var. fiscidiscus K.Komatsu, S.Zhu & S.Q.Cai).

Among the good places for ginseng preservation are Quang Nam and Kon Tum provinces.

Vietnamese ginseng will become an international branded commodity with high export value by 2045 and Vietnam will be a major global ginseng producer then.

Ngoc Linh ginseng has been proved to be a high-quality medicinal herb in Vietnam and recognised as a national treasure.

Ngoc Linh ginseng is used to better the immune system, memory, anti-inflammatory, anti-stress, anti-cancer and anti-aging effects.

The rhizomes of Ngoc Linh ginseng are used medicinally; its leaves and stems are used to make ginseng tea.

Ngoc Linh ginseng is recognised as a national branded product, a national treasure of Vietnam. It is one of 250 species in Vietnam’s Red Data Book.
