(QNO) - An exhibition entitled “Vietnam’s Hoang Sa and Truong Sa – Historical and Legal Evidences” is held by the Ministry of Information and Communication and Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee, from 22 to 28 August at the Quang Nam Cultural Centre in Tam Ky city.

Over 300 photos and documents displayed at the exhibition are historical and legal evidences affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty and the process of fighting to safeguard Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos. The exhibition is also an important event to help promote patriotism, solidarity and sense of responsibility among the domestic and oversea Vietnamese, particularly the Vietnamese young generation for defending the Fatherland, national seas and islands sovereignty.
The most important documents are 4 atlases and many other maps published by the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China (Taiwan) including The Map of China (published in 1908), Atlas of the Chinese Empire (published by the China Inland Mission in 1909) and Postal Atlas Map of China. All these maps indicate that the frontier of Southern China is Hainan island and demonstrate that China has never controlled the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, because these two archipelagos have belonged to Vietnam. China has never requested about its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. Other documents and maps in Han characters, in Vietnamese and French issued from the 17th to early 20th centuries also affirm Vietnam has long since enforced and safeguarded its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

In addition, it’s the first time the evidences of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos which have recently discovered are also displayed such as: the granted Royal Honour Certificate to Mr Vo Van Tay (a resident of Tam Ky, Quang Nam)- Chief of Marine force team by the kings Minh Mang, Thieu Tri, Tu Duc (the Nguyen Dynasty), an Atlas published by The Kingdom of Belgium, an official administrative document written in the Cham language issued by the Nguyen Dynasty on mobilizing Champa residents of Plei Kok zone to go to the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos to set up the national sea border marks.

The exhibition also displays the photos and objects featuring China’s violations in the Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf including broken pieces of Vietnamese Coast guard vessel 2016, which was rammed by Chinese ships as well as China’s inhuman acts of sinking Vietnamese fishing boats during the time China illegally placed its oil rig Haiyang Shiyou 981 in Vietnam’s waters in the East Sea.

“This is in series of the success in previous exhibitions in many cities and provinces throughout the country. On behalf of the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Exhibition Steering Board, I warmly thank the cooperation of the relevant departments, agencies, researchers, scientists who have contributed to the success of the exhibition”, Deputy minister of the Ministry of Information and Communications spoke at the exhibition opening ceremony.
The exhibition opens from 7.30 AM to 17.30 PM and runs until 28 August 2014. After that, the exhibitions will be held in the districts of Quang Nam province.
