Vietnam Fisheries Surveillance Force debuts

(QNO) - The Fisheries Surveillance Force Vietnam (FSFV) made debut on April 15 at the Military port of the Navy Zone 3 in Da Nang city. The ceremony was held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), with the participation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai and representatives from ministries and  leader of regional localities.

The FSFV belongs to the Department of Aquaculture (under the MARD). It is organised into many level from zones to the central including: the Department of Fishery Protection based in Hanoi and four regional zones which directly carry out tasks of patrolling, inspecting, controlling, detecting and handling violations to fisheries legal regulations at the Vietnam’s seas. Besides, the FSFV will support, help and ensure safety for Vietnamese vessels and fishermen in fisheries production and protection, as well as ensuring national sea and islands sovereignty.

“Vietnam has seas  and exclusive economic zones ( EEZ) with  total area of over 1,2 million square metres with rich and diversified source of income.. In which, aquaculture is a great income for national social and economic development. The daily fisheries resource exploitations of over 1 million fishermen and120,000 vessels has contributed an important role in the process of economic income exploitation for Vietnam, as well as confirming national sovereignty, sovereignty rights and jurisdiction in the East Sea,” said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai in the ceremony.

Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai also said the force’s formation is a great importance as it will ensure the execution of fisheries laws and regulations at sea, laying the foundation for the sustainable exploitation and protection of marine resources and assurance of safety for fishermen and their vessels.

He asked the MARD to work closely with relevant agencies and localities to direct the force to fulfill entrusted tasks in accordance with local and international laws, contributing to supporting seamen’s production, protecting fisheries resources, maritime security and order and national sovereignty, sovereignty rights and jurisdiction in the East Sea, as well as implementing international commitments joined by Viet Nam.

Deputy PM Hai also required the MARD to coordinate with the Ministries of Home Affairs, Finance, Planning and Investment and relevant agencies in developing policies to ensure the force’s operation, and devising a master plan to develop the force to 2020 with a vision to 2030.
