(QNO) - VOV.VN - Vietnam has welcomed the highest number of tourists from 10 key markets, including the United States and those in the Asia-Pacific region, since it fully reopened to international tourism and lifted travel restrictions on March 15.
Among the 10 markets, the Republic of Korea (RoK) took lead for arrivals with more than 196,000 visitors coming to Vietnam during the first seven months of the year, representing an annual increase of 903.7%, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
Following the RoK, the US came second with 102,900 arrivals, a year-on-year rise of 5,382%.
In third was Japan which sent 46,000 tourists to Vietnam throughout the reviewed period, up 794.6%, while the number of Taiwanese and Chinese tourists to Vietnam stood at 36,700 and 53,000, up 395.9% and 34.5%, respectively.
Other countries to make the list include Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Although the number of visitors from Europe was not high, the growth rate saw a significant increase. Of the figure, the UK sent the largest number of visitors to Vietnam, followed by France and Germany.
Despite high growth, Vietnam still recorded a sharp decrease of 93% in foreign arrivals compared to 2019, the period before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
Vietnam aims to welcome 5 million foreign tourists this year. The number of foreign visitors is expected to go up in peak tourism season, from September this year to April next year.
