(QNO) - The My Son Inland Community-based Tourist zone (My Son ICT) of Duy Xuyen district (Quang Nam province) located near My Son Sanctuary Site was opened in February 2013 after nearly 2 years of preparation. This 1,3 million USD worth and three-year project is one of the activities within the project "Strengthening of Inland Tourism in Quang Nam" (SIT) which has been implemented since 2011 by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee (PPC) with the funds from Luxembourg Government.

The project’s aim is to develop the added values to promote inland tourism sites, tourism products from the potential of community and raise the local residents’ income.
"We began a three-year project to support local people through sustainable tourism development in early 2011. At present, 42 households in My Son village have received training on tourism services, studying English, cooking and taking care of tourists’ health… The project has helped to improve local people's incomes. Before, most of them made a living through farming, but now they have another means of making money between harvests," said Nguyen Thi Huyen from the ILO’s Office in Vietnam..
The My Son ICT was invested toward eco-tourism and homestay. Coming to here, all tourists not only enjoy the beautiful landscape of a rural village of Vietnam and My Son Sanctuary Site – a World Cultural Heritage but also have an experience in the friendly and hospitable dailylife of Vietnamese farmers and sightsee the traditional craft village… (Besides, the cooking service, local tourist guiders and other sustainable tourism services such as mountain climbing, boat racing around Thach Ban lake have brought peaceful and interesting minutes to tourists, too).

Miss Magarret Johensen, a tourist from Sweden, visited My Son Sanctuary Site and stayed two days and one night with a local resident’s family. She said: “I’m very interesting with many things I see and study in the village. The landscape are very beautiful and people here are very friendly. I and my friends enjoyed the holy towers and temples of My Son World heritage. It was so a splendid tour. I will come back here next year”. Magarret was instructed how to plant and care a family vegetable garden and some kinds of fruit trees by the householder.

”I have been to many countries. The most difficult thing for me was different language. But in My Son village, I could use my mother tongue. But Mr Thanh - the householder - and his son could speak many simple English sentences. They helped me in communication with many people around. Their services were very good.I visited a sculptured shop and now I understood more about the soul and holy spirit of the ancient Champa statues. I felt easily and very interesting in my “home stay” trip,” Thomas Steward, a student of Kent University (Australia), wrote in the commentary book.
It can say that Community- based inland tourism development is the best way for the village’s people to take advantage of the My Son World Heritage Site in a sustainable tourism direction. Community-based tourism will not only provide a stable income for local people, but also heighten residents’ awareness of environmental and heritage protection and knowledge of civilizing communication. In last six month, the community-based tourism in Duy Xuyen district brought more than 100 million VND to local people through home stay service.
