For the past years, his establishment has not only made lanterns for domestic and abroad markets but also become a place where tourists can learn how to make a lantern.
“Making lantern is the traditional job of my family. I was taught to make lanterns by my father. In 1995, I graduated in mechanical engineering and worked far from home. 3 years later, I came back to my home town when my family didn’t make lantern any more. At that time, Hoi An was still full of lanterns but their quality was really poor. Faced with this situation, I decided to restart my family’s traditional job”, he shared.
On the first days of making lanterns, Mr. Ha prepared materials by himself. His products were consigned at souvenir shops and very popular with visitors. He decided to set up a small establishment named Ha Linh. Now, there are 50 regular workers with a salary of more than 3.5 million VND/person/month here.
Ha Linh’s lanterns are sold not just to visitors in Hoi An ancient town but in nationwide markets. Especially, he is the first person to export lanterns to the countries in Asia, Europe and Americas. The quantity of the lanterns exported to Europe reaches 20 thousand a year. To be successful, Mr. Ha has spent much time visiting, studying and improving designs that meet customers’ demands.
Currently, Ha Linh lanterns become well-known all over the world. Every day, he still studies and creates to develop his lantern brand. Bringing Hoi An lanterns to all over the world is his desire.
