The Cam Thanh Community House was built on an area of nearly 1,860m2 and designed by chief architect Hoang Thuc Hao and his fellows from the Architects Association of Vietnam (AAV) in 2013.
The World Architecture Festival 2015 brought together over 2,000 architects and designers to the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore . The festival's most prestigious prize “World Building of the Year 2015” was awarded to Ole Scheeren of OMA (Singapore) for the Interlace. |
The house is a typical construction of Vietnamese rural area made of the available local material resources. Vines hanging across areca garden, together with the coconut leaves roof, can drastically reduce solar radiation and provide shade. The house fabric is a combination of strong wood columns and bamboo frame. Its roofs pitch inwards to collect rainwater for irrigation and daily activities. Surrounding walls are made of double-layer adobe bricks, create an air cushion and insulation. This structure can help the building steadily stand during strong storms.
The Cam Thanh Community House’s construction is a combination of special and typical values of Hoi An ancient town as well as an example of “ecological architecture” toward sustainable trend and the renovation of house space. It includes 3 adjoining buildings. By using flexible partitions, the space can be modified to adapt different requirements: meeting or conference, exhibition, event, library, or cafeteria.
The House also has a playground for children, an organic vegetables farm, an areca garden and a sport court. In the future, it will be a testing center for ecological agriculture and a place for sharing cultivating experiences and an ideal rest stop for tourists… The Cam Thanh Community House was presented the 2nd prize in the Green Award 2014 organised by the AAV.
