Those welcoming the Thai PM at Noi Bai International Airport included Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung.

Since August 18, 2024, Paetongtarn Shinawatra has served as the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand.

Her government places great importance on boosting cooperation with ASEAN member states, including Vietnam, particularly in the fields of economics and tourism.

According to Ambassador Hung, the visit marks the first official trip to Vietnam by a Thai Prime Minister in 11 years, following PM Prayut Chan-o-cha’s visit in 2014. It takes place at a meaningful time as both nations look ahead to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1976–2026), a key milestone in bilateral ties.

Hung noted that PM Paetongtarn’s administration places high importance on strengthening cooperation with ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, especially in the areas of economics and tourism.

With the enhanced strategic partnership between the two nations expanding across multiple sectors, the visit offers a timely opportunity to elevate bilateral ties to a new, more practical and effective level, he said.
