THACO exports cars to Myanmar

THACO (Truong Hai Auto Company) exported 120 Kia Cerato cars to Myanmar on December 24, 2019. These cars are of Deluxe version manufactured at THACO plant in Quang Nam province.

 

The importer was Super Seven Starts Motors Industry Co., Ltd (SSS) headquartered in Yangon (Myanmar).

The company now acts as Kia manufacturer and distributor in Myanmar. It is also manufactures and trades Peugeot, SsangYong passenger cars and buses.

Kia Cerato owns localized components which were built in THACO Chu Lai Industrial Park’s support industry factories, such as bodies, seats, bumpers, electrical wires, doors, bonnets, trunks, exhaust pipes, air-conditioning, AV Navigation. 

Specifically, the car bodies are built on hi-tech production lines transferred from South Korea. Such production lines include wet-on-wet color paint stations that can offer a variety of customized paint colors.

In addition, the car bodies go through strict precision testing mechanism - Coordinate Measuring Machine from Japan.

 

The Deluxe version of Kia Cerato is one of the brand's best-selling models in Vietnam market. THACO Kia Plant produces globalized Kia components.

This shipment to Myanmar has marked the beginning of the strategy between THACO and Kia Motors which aims to turn THACO into Kia manufacturing center in ASEAN and its exporter of Kia cars and components to the region.

Achieving the over-40-percent localization ratios, THACO Kia Plant satisfies the Regional Value Content to be entitled to the zero tariff as prescribed in the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA).

As planned, THACO will export 1,026 vehicles by the end of 2020, including Kia Cerato to Myanmar, Kia Sedona (aka Kia Grand Carnival in foreign markets) to Thailand and Myanmar.

Regarding automotive component exports, THACO earned USD14.3 million in revenues and set the USD21 million target for 2020.
