Application of technology

The Le Bac Cooperative in Duy Chau commune started planting 7 hectares of mulberry trees to rear silkworms using new technology in the period of 2018-2019. Silkworm cocoons will be sold to Lam Dong province.

Duy Xuyen district used to be a place of mulberry planting, silkworm rearing, silk reeling and weaving; so it is rather easy to recover the area of producing silkworm cocoons here. Moreover, the application of technology in the process of breeds, planting mulberry and rearing silkworms will help increase productivity and decrease labours. The knowledge of science and technology in this process is now prepared to transfer to farmers, members of the Le Bac Cooperative.

Production expansion

The area of 7 hectares of mulberry in Duy Chau commune is planned to spread to 24 hectares in Duy Chau, Nam Phuoc, Duy Hoa 1, Duy Hoa 2, Duy Tan and Duy Thu. Besides, the area of mulberry will be expanded to Dai Loc district, covering about 100 hectares along the Thu Bon and Vu Gia rivers.

The first phase of the plan is to produce cocoons and sell silk thread. The next will focus on a whole series of mulberry plantation, silkworm cultivation, silk reeling and silk weaving in Duy Xuyen and Dai Loc. The plan aims to recover Quang Nam sericulture.
