(QNO) - Green and sustainable tourism is now a necessity, especially within the setting of climate change. Hoi An and Quang Nam are leading the way in green tourism, with businesses aiming at sustainable tourrism
At the seminar “Commitment to green tourism - From pledge to action”, organized by Saigon Tiep Thi and the Quang Nam Tourism Association on March 30 in Hoi An, experts discussed solutions and strategies for sustainable tourism development. They also made concrete commitments to environmental protection and enhancing visitor experiences.
Ms. Ha Thi Dieu Vien, General Manager of Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort, shared its journey to zero plastic waste. Since 2019, Silk Sense has reduced 200 - 300 plastic bottles daily and launched the "Green Cups" initiative to promote recyclable cups.
In October 2023, it piloted Waste2Green (W2G) technology, processing 24 tons of organic waste in 2024 into fertilizer, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable tourism.
According to Mr. Manh, General Manager of a sustainable resort in Hoi An, this shift is evident in the proactive efforts of homestays, villas, hotels, and restaurants adopting green practices. He also highlighted the vital role of traditional villages like Tan Thanh fishing village and Tra Que vegetable village in creating unique and sustainable tourism experiences.
Hoi An has great potential for green tourism, with technology, especially AI, playing a vital role. Balancing economic growth with community responsibility and training a skilled workforce is key to sustainable green tourism.
With 92% of tourists considering sustainable options, this encourages businesses and areas to adopt sustainable models.
