(QNO) - A delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam had a working visit to Quang Nam on the morning of August 4.
At the meeting, Deputy Chief of JICA Representative Office in Vietnam Shinoda Takanobu highly appreciated the development of Vietnam and Quang Nam’s efforts in harmonising economic development with cultural heritage preservation.
In reply, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Ho Quang Buu congratulated Shinoda Takanobu on his new position.
On behalf of Quang Nam leaders, he thanked JICA for its aid and support, especially for Hoi An heritage renovation and preservation, including the Japanese Covered Bridge.
Ho Quang Buu hoped JICA would continue to help Hoi An preserve some other cultural structures and build a smart urban area, prevent and control natural disasters, support for industrial development, green and sustainable tourism, and promote Japanese investors to Quang Nam.
According to Shinoda Takanobu, JICA wishes to exchange information regularly between the two parties in order to implement cooperation programmes effectively, contributing to the development of Quang Nam.
In terms of the Japanese Covered Bridge renovation project, Shinoda Takanobu said that it will be completed at the end of 2023.
It is an important and significant project, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Japan Diplomatic relations (September 21, 1973 - September 21, 2023). He hoped Quang Nam province and Hoi An city would pay attention to the project so that it could be completed on schedule.
Ho Quang Buu agreed with Shinoda Takanobu's proposal relating to the project implementation and the preparation for the inauguration ceremony at the end of this year.
The Japanese Covered Bridge renovation project costs VND20.2 billion, 50% of which is from the provincial state budget, and the rest is from Hoi An city’s People’s Committee. The project has received financial aid from the Sumitomo Foundation and consultant support from JICA.
