(QNO) - The 3rd Hoi An Lantern Festival 2023 was held in Wernigerode city (Saxony Anhalt State, Germany) from August 25 - 27 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the two cities’ friendship (2013 - 2023).
During the 3-day festival, the houses, shops, and Central Square of Wernigerode City are lit by hundreds of exquisitely handcrafted lanterns brought from Hoi An city (Quang Nam province).
On this occasion, Hoi An provides the city’s tourism information, typical handicraft products, food, and cultural features for visitors in Germany.
Since 2013, Wernigerode city has been twinned with Hoi An city (Vietnam), opening a turning point for cooperation between the two cities.
In the past 10 years, the two sides have carried out various cooperation and exchanges in economics, culture, education, tourism, and the environment, including the German beer festival in Hoi An, Wernigerode city’s solar energy project at Song Hoai Square in Hoi An, and supporting Hoi An workers to study and work in Wernigerode.
Hoi An and Wernigerode cities received the “German National Sustainability Award” in 2019 for the field of twinning between German cities and foreign partners on a global scale.
