(QNO) - A seminar on seaculture was jointly held in Hoi An (Quang Nam) on November 10 by the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee (PPC) and the Vietnam Seaculture Association (VSA).
The seminar focused on new technologies and methods of sustainable and effective mariculture associated with the preservation and development of aquatic resources; the role of marine reserves in protecting, restoring, and developing aquatic resources.
According to Ho Quang Buu, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee, Quang Nam has an over 125km coastline with about 30,000 hectares of water surface, including about 10,000 hectares of tidal flats, which is favourable for mariculture.
The fisheries industry in Quang Nam has recently seen positive development. Its production value accounted for nearly 30% of the structure of the agriculture industry.
The provincial fisheries industry created jobs for more than 16,000 direct workers and about 3,000 indirect workers, contributing to the provincial socio-economic targets.
On this occasion, Ho Quang Buu suggested that the government should have a plan for marine space with specific regulations so that businesses can invest and develop in this space.
Besides, there were several solutions for natural marine farming, such as establishing and effectively managing enterprise-run marine gardens for marine eco-tourism and commercial exploitation, developing areas to maintain aquatic seed sources for effective and sustainable exploitation of aquatic products, and building natural marine farms.
According to experts, it is necessary to have unified planning and specific mechanisms and policies so that investors can participate in marine farming, thereby developing the marine economy, ensuring green products, and preserving marine resources.
