(QNO) - During the Vu Lan season (Ullambana or Vietnamese Mother’s Day), the rivers in Quang Nam province are decked with sparkling flower lanterns.
At night, the Hoai river resembles a galaxy with floating flower lanterns. Traditionally, in Vu Lan season, Hoi An (Quang Nam) becomes a place for people to release flower lanterns, especially on the Hoai river and the section of the Thu Bon river near Cua Dai bridge.
According to folklore, lightening flower lanterns is aimed at reminding of the principle of remembering the source of one's blessings.
Releasing floating flower lanterns during the Vu Lan festival is a traditional Buddhist ritual to pray for the souls of the deceased.
