Quang Nam province to plan for building an elephant sanctuary

(QNO) - An Interbranch seminar on solutions to forest protection associated with elephant conservation and Eco-tourism development in Nong Son district was organized on 3rd August by Vietnam National Administration of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam). It’s a part of the project of elephant urgent conservation and control of elephant tusks trade in Vietnam toward 2020.

According to the latest report by zoology and bio-diversity experts issued in December 2015, there are 4 to 6 elephants living in Nong Son district’s forests.

At the seminar the plan on building an elephant reserve and habitat was presented and expected to be finished in five months.

Summer camp for kids

Over 200 elementary and secondary schools students of Nong Son district (Quang Nam province) took part in the two-day children summer camp 2016 “Elephants are friends” on 3 and 4 August.
With interesting activities, this summer camp was not only the joyful holidays, but also a chance for local kids to learn more about elephants in Vietnam and in the world.
The children also attended some useful activities such as painting and talking about the camp’s topic “Elephants are friends”, propagandizing elephant conservation to the public…
