(QNO) - The Vietnam Athletics Federation has sent an official document requesting Quang Nam's approval to host the 2025 Viettel International Marathon in the province.
The Vietnam Athletics Federation recognizes Quang Nam’s rich heritage sites, such as Hoi An ancient town, My Son Sanctuary, and Cham Islands, making it an ideal location to connect heritage sites and elevate the marathon.
The event will promote Vietnam’s peaceful, hospitable image and highlight Quang Nam’s tourism and economic potential.
The 2025 Viettel International Marathon will link heritage sites in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, taking place in Angkor Wat, Luang Prabang, and Hoi An, with 25,000 - 27,000 participants. The tentative schedule is Laos (October), Vietnam (November), and Cambodia (December).
Participants include national teams from Southeast Asia and top runners from countries like the U.S., France, Germany, the U.K., Australia, Japan, and South Korea.
The marathon will showcase local culture, boost economic potential, and strengthen ties among the three Indochinese nations.
In 2024, the Vietnam Athletics Federation partnered with Laos and Cambodia to launch the Viettel Marathon, supervised by the Asian Athletics Association and included in Asia’s official competition system.
The first edition drew 25,000 participants across Luang Prabang, Hanoi, and Angkor Wat.
