(QNO) - Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam People's Committee Ho Quang Buu and provincial representatives of relevant departments had a working session with the delegation from the Japan International Development Cooperation Agency (JICA) on May 17.
The meeting focused on the technical cooperation project funded by JICA for planning post-flood development recovery and natural disaster prevention in Central Vietnam, mainly in Quang Nam Province and Da Nang City.
At the meeting, a JICA representative said the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin is often severely affected by floods, negatively impacting local socio-economic development. Some areas in Japan are too. Over the years, Japan has been implementing safe and effective solutions for people and infrastructure protection.
So, the project aims to increase investment in natural disaster prevention from the Vietnamese Government and other contributions to fundamentally reducing flood damage in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin in Central Vietnam.
JICA plans to implement the project in 36 months with 3 phases, starting from March 2024 to February 2027.
In particular, JICA focuses on basic surveys, the supply and installation of necessary equipment for monitoring hydrology and natural disasters in the target river basin, the assessment of flood risks, the development of an IFMP (integrated flood management plan) in the target basin, and the establishment of a cooperation mechanism between relevant parties to effectively implement flood prevention solutions.
Welcoming the JICA delegation to Quang Nam, Vice Chairman Ho Quang Buu affirmed that Quang Nam hoped to receive cooperation from JICA on natural disaster prevention in the locality.
