(QNO) - A world heritage conservation and environmental education programme was organised at the My Son world heritage site in Duy Xuyen district of central Quang Nam province on June 20 for secondary school students in the district and Hoi An city.

The programme aims to raise young people’s awareness of preserving UNESCO-recognised world heritages and protecting the environment. It is part of the UNESCO Culture and Development Week 2013 and the 5 th Quang Nam Heritage Festival.

During the programme, students came to the My Son exhibition building and the My Son Sanctuary to learn about the unique and diverse architecture of centuries-old temples and towers, cultural features of the ancient Champa Kingdom as well as efforts to preserve them.

They attended an interactive class on UNESCO-recognised world heritage sites and received instructions on how to take part in the Eco-Picture Diary Contest, which encourages students to relate their experiences through diaries and paintings.

Within the programme, a communication training course was held for the staff of the management board of the Hoi An and My Son heritage sites.

The programme, co-organised by the UNESCO Office in Hanoi and Panasonic Vietnam Co. Ltd., has been running since June 2011.

In 2012, around 4,000 students from 10 countries and territories joined the programme.

This year’s event takes place across eight countries, including Vietnam.
