(QNO) - On March 13, 2025, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, had a working session with representatives from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
The discussion focused on ongoing cooperation projects and potential directions for sustainable urban development in Quang Nam, especially from 2022 to 2025.
A key topic was the Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building for Urban Development in Vietnam (ISCB) project.
Funded by the Swiss government through the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and managed by UN-Habitat, the ISCB project is currently being implemented in Tam Ky city, with a pilot phase in Tam Thanh.
The project aims to develop a comprehensive socio-economic strategy for the Tam Thanh community art village, utilizing an integrated urban planning approach and fostering the creation of public spaces that encourage active community participation.
In 2025, the project will focus on finalizing the socio-economic development strategy for Tam Thanh Art Village and implementing a pilot public space creation project. These efforts aim to boost the local economy, enhance tourism services, and preserve the traditional mural art of Tam Thanh.
Alongside ISCB, UN-Habitat is also implementing the Botnar project, which promotes innovation for youth and communities in Hoi An and Tam Ky. This initiative is expected to introduce creative solutions to urban challenges, improve the quality of life in both cities, and support sustainable urban development in the region.
UN-Habitat's representatives expressed their gratitude to Quang Nam province and Tam Ky city for their ongoing collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to the efficient management of SECO’s funding. They ensured that all activities would remain on course and deliver tangible benefits to the local population.
As a specialized agency of the United Nations focused on urban development, UN-Habitat has been active in Vietnam since 2007. The agency has been in partnership with Quang Nam province since 2011, executing multiple key urban development projects.
