(QNO) - Quang Nam is expanding the Chu Lai port to establish an international logistics hub, enhancing regional trade and economic growth.
On March 21, Quang Nam inaugurated the 50,000-ton dock, a key milestone in the expansion project at Tam Hiep port.
With a total investment of VND 1.59 trillion, the port plays a crucial role in connecting Quang Nam with national and international trade routes, strengthening its position in global supply chains.
The newly completed dock extends the port’s total length to 836 meters, with a draught depth of -11.6 meters, allowing it to accommodate ships of up to 50,000 tons.
Infrastructure improvements have significantly increased cargo handling efficiency, tripling container loading capacity to nearly 100 containers per hour.
Chu Lai port now serves major industrial zones, including Tam Thang, Thuan Yen, and VSIP Quang Ngai, as well as businesses in the Central Highlands, Southern Laos, and Northern Cambodia.
This expansion aligns with Vietnam’s national port development plan and strengthens Quang Nam’s economic competitiveness within ASEAN.
The enhanced logistics infrastructure is expected to lower transportation expenses and improve trade efficiency.
By 2025, the province aims for a GRDP growth rate of over 10%, prioritising industry, trade, services, and logistics. The upgraded Chu Lai port is set to become a vital link in regional supply chains, driving sustainable economic development and international trade.
