Restoration of E and F tower groups in My Son Sanctuary
(QNO) - On February 21, Phan Thai Binh, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee, had a working session with an Indian expert team on the restoration of Towers E and F at My Son Sanctuary in Duy Xuyen district.
The E & F tower groups at My Son are severely deteriorated, with only E7 restored (2011 - 2013). Main Tower E1 (dated from the 8th century) has weak brick bonding and stands at 2.5m, while Gate Tower E2 is fragile, with only 2.2m remaining and detached stone pillars.
The E3 - E8 towers at My Son are severely damaged, with most collapsed or at risk of collapse. E3, E5, and E8 have fragile remaining walls while E4 is buried, and E6 shows subsidence. So urgent restoration is needed to prevent further damage.
The F tower group is in critical condition, with F3 completely destroyed by war.
F2 has a leaning 3.2m wall with deep cracks, supported by iron braces. F1, excavated in 2003, remains unrestored, with severe cracks and a high collapse risk. It is therefore necessary to restore urgently.
The project will preserve original structures with legal procedures expedited for a Q1/2025 start.
Key proposals include adjusting workers' wages and leasing land for Cham brick production. It is also important to build a museum for excavated artefacts, thereby attracting visitors and honouring Indian experts' contributions.
Indian experts highlighted its role in heritage preservation and workforce training. Deputy Chairman Phan Thai Binh approved the proposals and urged swift implementation.
