Korean Lotus Village: A 20-year journey with Tam Ky

(QNO) - Since 2005, the Korean Lotus Village, a non-governmental organisation in South Korea, has provided significant assistance to Tam Ky through programs that encourage education, develop talent, and create a learning community.

Over the past 20 years, the Korean Lotus Village has played an important role in supporting education and welfare in Tam Ky city, Quang Nam province.

The Village has awarded 2,898 scholarships with over VND 1.96 billion, especially enabling a lot of students from Quang Nam to pursue master's studies in South Korea. It has also contributed to building and supporting educational facilities, including Ducksan Kindergarten, which cares for 786 children annually.

In addition, the VIllage has advocated for Korean organisations to assist Agent Orange victims and fund surgeries for children with congenital heart defects and cleft palates.

In 2015, the Hangul Hakdang Language Centre was founded to teach Korean for the young in Tam Ky. It also facilitated cultural exchanges between Vietnamese and South Korean students.

Besides, the Village has provided free vocational training for 790 students in tailoring, spa services, and elderly care since 2018. It also plans to build an elderly care centre with a capacity of 50 individuals in late 2024. Its initial investment is estimated at 1.5 billion wons (equivalent to VND 27 billion).

The Village has been recognised with multiple awards and honours from the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee.
