Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his spouse touch down at the airport on September 21 afternoon (local time), for the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79), and working sessions in the US.

The top leader and his delegation were welcomed at the airport by Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung and his spouse, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, and embassy staff.

The 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) takes place in a context of special significance as the UN and Vietnam together look forward to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the largest multilateral organization on the planet, and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, towards a new future and development path for the United Nations and the world.

In that context, the United Nations will launch a broad array of events during the high-level week of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, with the focus being the Future Summit.

The trip to the UN is of great significance as it continues to show Vietnam’s contributions to the world’s largest multilateral organisation, as well as the country’s proactive engagement in the settlement of regional and international issues.

The leader will bring forward important messages in strong support of multilateralism, with the UN playing the central role in promoting global peace, cooperation, and development.

This is viewed as an opportunity for Vietnam to once again affirm its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification of foreign relations; proactive and active international integration; being a friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community; and always actively contributing to peace, friendship, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The working visit to the US coincides with the first anniversary of the two nations’ comprehensive strategic partnership and their preparations for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2025.

This is an important occasion for both sides to look back on the achievements that their new partnership framework has generated and, while discussing major orientations and measures for sustaining the trend of positive, stable, and substantive development of their relations in the future.

To Lam is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with US leaders, attend and deliver remarks at events towards the 30th anniversary, and the first anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership, and have other meetings with the participation of US officials, businesspeople, experts, and academics.

This high-level week of the 79th UNGA brings together a large number of international leaders to discuss and outline the future development direction of the world.

Party General Secretary and President To Lam's engagement in this event is of great significance.

This is the first time that the Party General Secretary has directly attended the United Nations General Assembly and is also the first multilateral diplomatic activity of Party General Secretary and President To Lam at the global international organization, thereby strongly reaffirming at the highest level the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, proactive and active international integration, and sharing Vietnam's vision and solutions on the role of the United Nations and major global issues.

This also demonstrates the Vietnamese Party and State's great attention to multilateral cooperation, major UN agendas and comprehensive relations with the organization.
