At the end of August, when the weather is still hot, Co Tu households in Ma Cooih (Dong Giang, Quang Nam) begin harvesting A Rieu chilli. Originally growing wild in the forest, this chilli is now widely cultivated and sold in the market.

Since 2016, the Ma Cooih Forestry and Agricultural Cooperative has bought A Rieu chilli from the locals, contributing to improving their income. At the same time, the cooperative provides chilli seedlings to local farmers.

A Rieu chilli is grown in different communes in Dong Giang, but the variety from Ma Cooih is well-known for its richer flavour and aroma. The cooperative continues to support seedlings and seek market outlets for A Rieu chilli, thereby helping local farmers boost their economic development.

According to Ating Ben, his family grows over 300 A Rieu chilli plants and harvests chilli fruit every 15 days for 6 months. The chilli has made his family’s life better.
