Conservation and restoration project on Tower F Group at My Son Sanctuary
(QNO) - Vietnam is actively promoting cooperation with India to implement the project on the conservation and restoration of Tower F Group at My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam.
On the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official state visit to India on August 1, 2024, Vietnam signed and handed a Letter of Intent with the Government of India for the conservation and restoration of Tower F Group at My Son Sanctuary.
According to the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, the globally outstanding values of the My Son Cultural Heritage have been preserved in accordance with the 1972 UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and related documents from the Government of Vietnam.
In particular, the Vietnam - India cooperation project on the conservation and restoration of the A, K, and H tower groups at My Son Sanctuary (Quang Nam) in the 2016-2022 period achieved positive outcomes. After restoration, the groups of towers A, K, and H have been highly praised by both local and international experts.
In terms of Tower F, the Government of India has agreed to sponsor the conservation project on this tower group at My Son Sanctuary.
Accordingly, Quang Nam collaborated with experts from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the preservation and restoration project for the Tower F Group at My Son Sanctuary between 2020 and 2023 and early 2024.
According to preliminary assessments, the Tower F Group, dating back to the 8th-9th centuries, has been severely damaged.
To prevent the towers from collapsing, an iron frame has been installed around the towers to stabilise the walls and prevent them from falling. In addition, a corrugated metal roof was erected to protect it from rain and sun damage.
