The 6th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival in Nam Tra My
(QNO) - The 6th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival officially opened in Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province, on the evening of August 1st.
Present at the opening ceremony of the 6th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival were Secretary of the Quang Nam provincial Party Committee, Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam People's Committee, Ho Quang Buu, the delegation of Hamyang district (South Korea), representatives of Kon Tum and Quang Ngai provinces, and others.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Nam Tra My People's Committee, Tra Duy Dung, said the festival includes several trade, cultural, and artistic activities. It is an opportunity to promote tourism and attract investment in the fields of medicinal herbs and clean agricultural products in Nam Tra My in particular and Quang Nam province in general.
According to Mr. Dung, Nam Tra My has currently planned a ginseng growing area of more than 15,000 hectares, conserved about 100 hectares, equivalent to about 2 million ginseng trees, and developed a ginseng material area of over 1,650 hectares with the participation of more than 1,500 households.
In addition, the district has attracted 18 businesses to register to grow ginseng trees under the forest canopy, with an area of over 341.75 hectares.
Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee, Ho Quang Buu, appreciated the role of Ngoc Linh ginseng in the local socio-economic development.
So, he suggested the need for the preservation and development of the original Ngoc Linh ginseng varieties by local people, contributing to protecting the Vietnamese ginseng brand.
Besides, businesses should obey relevant legal regulations in planting, preserving, developing Ngoc Linh ginseng, deeply processing products from Ngoc Linh ginseng, contributing to increasing the value of this precious medicinal plant.
He said it is necessary to take advantage of medicinal plants and Ngoc Linh ginseng to develop eco-tourism, especially tourism in the ginseng area. Growing ginseng trees must go hand in hand with forest protection and development in the area.
